Cornstarch forks, knives, spoons and sporks follow an injection-molding route. The process provides control over fork tips, spoon bowls, knife edges, handle thickness and molded geometry.
The approved molding compound is dried, blended and checked before production.
Material fills dedicated fork, knife, spoon or spork molds.
Parts are demolded and checked for warpage, incomplete tips and sharp flash.
Approved utensils are bulk packed, individually wrapped or assembled into sets.
| Stage | What happens | Cutlery-specific check |
|---|---|---|
| Material preparation | Approved compound is prepared for molding | Material lot, moisture condition, formulation and color |
| Injection molding | Material fills dedicated utensil molds | Cavity fill, handle thickness and complete geometry |
| Cooling and finishing | Parts are demolded and excess material is removed | Warpage, tips, edges, spoon bowl and surface finish |
| Functional inspection | Sampled utensils are measured, weighed and tested | Length, unit weight, flex, grip and food-specific function |
| Wrapping and packing | Pieces are bulk packed or assembled into sets | Combination, wrapper seal, unit count and carton arrangement |
Clean runners, start-up material and rejected molded parts are collected separately. Suitable material follows a controlled reprocessing or qualified recycling route only where the approved compound and quality requirements allow; contaminated or degraded residue is not mixed into food-contact production.
Inspectors compare sampled utensils with the approved specification and reference sample. Checks cover dimensions, unit weight, fork tips, knife edges, spoon bowls, handle warpage, surface defects and sharp flash.
Representative pieces can also be tested with the buyer's food. Wrapped products and meal kits are reviewed for combination accuracy, wrapper seal, accessory count and carton protection.
| Quality-control step | Inspection method |
|---|---|
| 1. Size and weight | Measure utensil length and width; weigh sampled pieces |
| 2. Shape and finish | Inspect tips, edge, spoon bowl, handle, gate area and surface |
| 3. Functional test | Use the utensil with the intended food or an agreed test load |
| 4. Packing release | Verify wrapper seal, set combination, inner count and carton quantity |
